Fig (Anjeer) Rolls:

Figs are one of the miracle foods with endless benefits. Eating figs everyday can help solving numerous health problems. Let’s discuss a few.

The health benefits of figs come from the presence of minerals, vitamins and fibre contained in the fruit. They contain a wealth of beneficial nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, sodium, potassium and chlorine.
The high concentration of fibre in figs helps promote healthy, regular bowel function and prevents constipation. The fibre in figs also helps to reduce weight if consumed in limited portion. They lower cholesterol. Dried figs contain phenol, Omega-3 and Omega-6 that prevents coronary heart disease. They help reducing the risk of colon cancer. They give protection against against breast cancer and especially post-menopausal breast cancer. It helps controlling diabetes. It prevents hypertension, treats bronchitis, strengthens bones, prevents urinary calcium loss, prevents of macular degeneration and also a relief for throat pain.
Let’s take a look how to make the rolls.
Serving size: 9 pieces of rolls

Ingredients

12 dried figs (anjeer)
2 tbsp chopped walnuts (akhrot)
2 tbsp chopped almonds (badam)
2 tbsp chopped pistachios (pista)
2 tbsp roasted sesame seeds (til)
1 tsp ghee
a few saffron (kesar) strands dissolved in 2 tsp of milk
1/4 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder

Soak the dried figs in enough hot water in a bowl for 5 minutes.
Drain well and blend in a mixer to a smooth mixture without using any water. Keep aside.
Heat the ghee in a broad non-stick pan, add the dried fig mixture, walnuts, almonds, pistachios and sesame seeds, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.
Switch off the flame, add the saffron-milk mixture and cardamom powder and mix well.
Transfer the mixture onto a greased plate and spread it evenly using a flat spoon.
Cool slightly (not completely) and cut into 9 equal square-shaped pieces.
Roll them on roasted poppy seeds.
Cool completely and serve or store refrigerated till serving.
You can also put silver leaf (chandi ka warq) on them instead of rolling them on roasted poppy seeds. It gives a terrific festive touch to it.

You can give different shape to them too. You can make laddoo or rolls as you wish.
